My husband, Sam and I recently had the rare opportunity to take a two week vacation. When trying to decide where to go, Sam asked that the destination:
Must have a beach,
Be cycling friendly,
And have a good mix of adventurous and relaxing activities.
After having a good mix of relaxation and adventure, my main priority was that the destination have an exciting food scene. With all of these things in mind, we chose Tulum and we're so glad we did.
Tulum is an eco-chic, small beach town on Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. It's a couple hours south of Cancun, making it an easy place for most to get to. With it's white sand beaches, low key vibe, and turquoise waters, we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend two weeks.
Opting to equally explore the town and the beach by bike, we decided to stay at an AirBnb between the two. We felt like locals when we cooked our own breakfasts and enjoyed the rooftop terrace.
We spent most days at the beach then would head to a hotel or beach bar for happy hour, like Mezzanine shown below. Little did we know, but Tulum also has an up-and-coming craft cocktail scene.
When we were feeling more adventurous, Sam learned to kite surf, we explored the town by bike, and visited a cenote (underground caverns with beautiful water). We also spent an afternoon at the spa at Mi Amor pictured below and had amazing massages.
Tulum made a lasting impression on us and we hope to return soon, even if for a long weekend. Have you ever been to Tulum? I'd love to hear about some of your favorite spots.
